Do you know about the Life colors?

life with God is good

The Life colors are part of a story that I learned when I was about five years old.  The simple truth of the story changed my life and I still think about it every day.

Green represents God's creation of the earth and everything in it, including all of mankind. When He finished creation, He said that it was good. We believe God is a good and loving Father who has offered us an abundant life with Him.

Black represents the sin that resulted from our choice to disobey God's commands.  Sin is a Bible word used to describe missing the mark.  The Bible teaches that all of us have sinned and that sin leads to death and separation from God. The good news is that God has a plan to free us from the penalty of our sin and welcome us back into a life in close relationship with Him.

Red reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us by paying the penalty of our sin with His own blood. Jesus was the Son of God and did not sin or disobey God in any way, yet He offered us the gift of forgiveness and salvation by willingly going to a cross of execution to die in our place. His blood was given as payment in full for our sins and provides us with a hope that we could not have earned or purchased in any other way.  The perfect Son of God stepped in to take our punishment and pay the price for our freedom.

White represents the new life that we experience as we hear, believe, and receive the gift of forgiveness that that Jesus has offered us by dying to pay the penalty of our sins. As we honestly talk with God and admit that we have sinned and ask for His forgiveness and His help to turn away from our sinful habits, He promises to cleanse us from our sin and give us a new life.  It is just as if the heart of who we are, our spirit, is being born all over again.  We are given a fresh start in this new life to live in close relationship with our Creator and Father, God.

Yellow reminds us of the promise of eternal life that Jesus made. Jesus said He was going to prepare a place with God in Heaven where those who received His gift of new life would walk on streets of gold. Jesus did not just die on the cross. He was also raised from the dead by the power of God to demonstrate His power over sin and even over the grave. If we have admitted to God that we have been living a sinful life, have asked Him to forgive us, told others that we believe Jesus was raised from the dead, and have made him the new boss of our life, we can know that we will be with Him not only right now, but even after this life is over.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 NIV
